Dear A,
When it’s raining try not to get
your shirt and your hair and your underwear wet.
But if you do, don’t you fret.
We’ll dry you off and you’ll be set.
Love, Mommy, Daddy, Sister, and Brother

First day of kindergarten. For my son, not me – but it was my first day as a kindergarten parent. Among the kindergarten orientation info papers (so many papers) were multiple reminders to include a note in with their lunch. I went looking for inspiration online, but nothing was doing it for me. I realized…it’s because I wanted rhyming notes. I remembered that my mom used to put a note in my lunch every day. Every. Day. And the only one I remember rhymed. So I vowed – VOWED – to do the same. This is yet another one of those parenting things that you only fully appreciate when you do them yourself. I love you, Mom.
I made it a point to rhyme every note – except this one. I had to build up to that.
Dear A,
We hope you are having a great first day of Kindergarten!
You are the best kid we could ever have!
Love, Mom and Dad
(It’s a 3-way tie, in case you’re wondering. The best kid contest, that is.)
